Story: 'Ed Harris' plays the captain of a Cold War Soviet missile submarine who has secretly been suffering from seizures that alter his perception of reality. Forced to leave his wife and daughter, he is rushed into a classified mission, where he is haunted by his past and challenged by a rogue KGB group (led by David Duchovny) bent on seizing control of the ship's nuclear missile. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Harris discovers he's been chosen for this mission in the belief he would fail. First off, I am not a fan of Independent movies and find most boring orto artsy. I heard about Phantom for the first time when I watched alate night TV talk show. My interest was peaked so I went to see it anthe local theater that shows this Independent movies. From the openingscene, I was hooked. My only issue was that unless you had seen othermovies of this type, with the cast speaking English right from thebeginning, you did not know that this was supposed to be Russian. Butif you listened you could hear that they were talking about Russianlocations, but the people that went with me had to ask me about 15minutes into it if this was supposed to be Russian Navy. This moviehooks you and draws you into the life aboard a WW2 Era sub. Havingactually been on this old sub as it sat in mothballs, I can tell youthat there is no room for camera gear and how they filmed the insidewith crew boggles me. Duchovny and Harris were spectacular in thismovie and made the movie believable. The story line was veryinteresting and I was sad to see the movie end, but being based on atrue story really peaked my interest and now I need more information.Please go see this movie, support this filmmaker, I am not associatedwith any of the movie or players, but for a Non Independent filmwatcher to love an Independent movie is really saying something.

Not a fan of war movies or cold war submarine movies, BUT went to seethis because Ed Harris and Lance Henriksen were in it. To my completesurprise it drew me in and would not let me go. They obviously used anauthentic submarine and the claustrophobic, this sub is going to justimplode any minute feel, had me on edge. The cast included DavidDuchovny, William Fichtner, Sean Patrick Flannery, Johnathan Schaech,etc.. Did it have ' "action" - yes, but the meat of the movie was theinteraction of the characters, the terror of the time - nuclearannihilation, personal guilt, love, friendship, bravery, and hatred andfear that breeds radical actions. You will regret not seeing thismovie!

I am a Soviet submarine officer, retired. I have to notice that thisfilm contains a lot of fakes. Here the fakes I faced with during first10 minutes: 1. We never rose our greatcoat collars, 2. In Russian (aswell as in Soviet) army it is forbidden to give a salute withoutheadress, 3. It is absolutely impossible if a Soviet officer getmarried in church. All Soviet officers were members of communisticparty and marriage in church was considered as a breach of discipline.4. There is no benches in Russian Orthodox churches. 5. The Captainwears American underwear. 6. The Captain of Soviet submarine is anepileptic??? This is an absolute nonsense. 7. Names of Soviet officers- Demy, Bruni, Alex??? 8. Any Soviet officer was restricted to travelabroad except maybe socialist countries and in the film the charactertravels to New York! 9. Submarine technician officer is aclaustrophobic????
